Velma is an 18-year-old senior who attends Palo Verde High School she is a track and field participant. She is attending the University of La Verne on a full scholarship ride for track and field. She is at this point in life because of hard work, dedication, and focus. She is an excellent athlete and a bright person.
She plans on studying business management in college. The college offered her this scholarship on the terms of going to class, studying, keeping her grades up, and to not do anything reckless. This scholarship covers more than 1,000 dollars, and that says a lot about her as a person, as well as an athlete. Her favorite post-game meal is La Paloma’s carne asada fries. “I’m not going to be able to eat that anymore, though.”
To get to where she is right now, she has trained for three years, she does not miss any practices, and she thrives to be better than what she already is. She also claims to always aim to be number one, to be the best. Some challenges she has experienced on this journey are life-threatening experiences. But that didn’t stop her from achieving her goals. It caused her to fight more for what she wanted, it was a life lesson. She claims to never take life for granted.
A person who has inspired her to be where she is right now is her grandma. She has inspired her to do the things she wants, has watched her grow up, watched her go to college, helping out the environment. She has also helped her choose this path. Some of the best memories she has made at PVHS are basketball games, going to away games with her teammates in track and field, running at home meets, and some thrower relay races. She will miss her teachers, her friends, the pep rallies, and the Powerpuff games which she has participated in and won 2 times in a row.
She will not miss Blythe and she is not sorry to admit that. She selected this particular sport because over the years she was playing basketball but fell out of love with it. Basketball was supposed to be a main sport, but when Ms. Hann and Mr. Jorgenson presented track to her, she fell in love with track and field. She does not know any of her future teammates and only looks forward to graduating from college and getting her college degree.
