Landyn Mallett is a very accomplished kid who was born on February 7, 2006 and is planning on joining the U.S. Marines after he finishes high school. Some of his high accomplishments from high school are that he’s graduating in a white gown and has completed every school year in high school with a GPA of 4.0 or higher. Also, he scored a 73 on the ASVAB.
He will head off to basic training in San Diego on July 29th. He plans on being an Aviation mechanic in the Marines. He hopes to be stationed in either North Carolina or San Diego because San Diego is close to family and North Carolina will be cool to live in. Landon claims that what he will miss most about his life back at home is spending time with family and friends, going fishing, going to the river, and just having fun at parties.
He still plans on being in contact with his family by sending letters to his friends and family during boot camp and when he’s stationed he will Facetime and call his family. He will also try to visit his family as much as possible and wishes his family would visit him also. I asked Landon, “What made you want to take this path right after high school? “ I hate school and didn’t want to go college but wanted to make my own welding business and wanted some retirement funds, also.”
He plans on starting his own welding business once his 4 years in the Marines are over. He already has welding experience from PVC here in his hometown Blythe, California. They claim him as one of the best welders in his class. He’s been wanting to pursue this career for 2 years now. He’s been preparing both mentally and physically every day for his boot camp.
His family and friends will miss him when he leaves but are supportive of the decision he is making because it will benefit him in the long run and he is serving his country. His biggest concern about living far away from home is just not being able to see his loved ones every day like usual. When asked about what his long term goals were, he responded “Start a family, start a welding business, get a big house for his family, and go on a lot of vacations like traveling the world so I can experience new things”.
I asked him what is one valuable thing he learned from life so far that can help him later in life? He says “Just when you’re down, don’t give up and keep on going because life keeps moving no matter what, whether you like it or not.”
