Football Wins League Champs!

Nicolas Lindbergh, Staff Reporter

Football is the most watched and popular sport here at PVHS and our Varsity team doesn’t let down, as they are the repeat league champions this year. This season followed a spectacular season last year, where the team was able to win both the league and the CIF Division 5 Championship. Varsity ended up advancing even further but was ultimately defeated by Quartz Hill, ending that season.  Carlos Gomez described the loss as “tough” but that they “got back to work” and the team “couldn’t dwell on the past”

A large number of the starters last year had been juniors, but they came into this new campaign even stronger as seniors. They had been motivated by what could be described as one of PV Football’s best seasons ever last year as they looked to do even better. They took their only loss of the season in the first game against Calexico, 13-14. It was all up from there for PV as the Varsity team went on to win the remaining 9 games straight with many blowouts. This included a stunning 53-6 win in the Homecoming game on October 7th. To top off the season, the PV defense forced 2 shutouts in their last 2 games. Varsity finished the regular season with a dominating record of 9-1, according to the PVHS Athletic Schedule, becoming League Champions once again and capping off an amazing season.

The team is now set to head into the playoffs in Division 4, led by their high-powered offense and crushing defense, as they get ready to make another playoff run and show off their Jacket Pride.
