First track meet of the season

Andrew Newton

The first track meet of the season went well but the weather was inclement and affected a lot of the athletes. Besides that our track team did well for the first meet of the season. The meet was held at Palm Desert high school. We came in 1st place for the 4 x 100 relay race with a time of 46.06 seconds. The runners for this event were Landon Salazar, Gabriel Dagnino, Markus Macon, and Matthew Robinson. Gabe Dagnino and Rudy Armstrong won the Triple jump. Gabe came in first with 37-10.50. Rudy came in second with 34-00.00. Gabriel Dagnino won the long jump with 20-02.00. Gabriel also won the high jump with 5-09.00. Carlos Gomez came close to winning discus in second place with 103-02.50 behind Bryce Bolton with 116-01.50.

Overall it was a great way to start the season. “We still have a lot of time to improve, we’re just going to get better from here and we didn’t even have all our athletes” – Coach Monty.

I asked Tony Vazquez how he thinks the first meet went “the first meet went well, it was a good learning experience for all the people that are new to track to learn how the meets work. Overall it was fun but it was really cold”. I asked Gabriel Dagnino how he felt about winning all his events and he said: ”it was a good start to the season and I can’t wait to see what happens, I’m going to keep improving and hopefully make it far in CIFs”. In conclusion, we wish to have a great season this year.
