Food for Funding: Senior Fundrasing

Nicole Heveron

As tradition goes, the senior trip is what most Seniors look forward to all year- besides graduating of course. Every year, only the seniors get to attend an event at Disneyland called Grad Nite. Beforehand, they must meet certain criteria such as grades and attendance. Part of the trip is funded by the class funds, and partly by the students. The class funds have been accumulated over the year by hosting events such as dances, working the snack shack during sports games, and holding fundraisers.

On Thursday, February 23rd, the Class of 2023 held one of their last fundraising events at the local American Legion- serving Chile Verde plates. Senior and one of the helpers, Brooke Martinez, explains it this way- “A Chile Verde plate is meat and carne asada, that we served with beans and rice.” The local community showed up and showed out for our PV seniors. Jazmin Ruiz, who went to go serve food, said this- “I was there for an hour and there were cars everywhere and we had a really good outcome.”

Ms. Ruiz went on to say, “I think this fundraiser was important to our class so that we can raise money for our end-of-the-year funds and our senior trip.” Group activities like this where everybody chips in also build a sense of community and camaraderie. Blythe is known for its tight-knit community, and you can see how the next generations reflect that.
